General Information about the Guided Walks

The guided walks are based in Northland, New Zealand.
The aim of the guided walks are to take you to places where you may be relucant to travel to by yourself. That doesn't mean that the walks are inherently dangerous, but with all outdoor pursuits - accidents can and do happen.
We have selected walks that are unusual and you may not even know about. Most are not in the guide books and they will take you through countryside rarely travelled.
These walks are not particulary strenuous, but they do require some degree of fitness. If you are a couch potato for most of the year and expect to walk all day on your holiday, then you will sadly mistaken.
Pre-walk preparation
There are a number of ways of getting yourself prepared for a walking holiday. The easiest one is to walk each day - start at 15 minutes and slowly work yourself up to 1 hour a day. Add a small amount of weight to your pack daily and before you know it you will feel better and be ready for your adventure walks through New Zealand. Contact us for a fitness development pack.
What to bring.
Plenty of film or batteries for the camera. Good walking shoes. Warm clothes and rain protection.
Fitness level.
Most walks will take a full day (6 - 10 hours) dependent upon the weather.
You will be supplied with a lightweight pack and overnight safety equipment (Including rations) just in case we get caught out. Approx weight is 3 Kgs with plenty of room for food and your own stuff.
We practice lightweight tramping (trekking or hiking), and try and keep the packs down to less than 6 Kgs total. The days of the 20Kg tramping packs are long gone. With the lightweight system, it is about enjoyment and speed. That coupled with the safety equipment carried by the local guide ensures that the walks are as safe as we can make them. Accidents still happen though, and for that our guides are first aid trained.
In addition your guide will carry GPS, ELB and a mobile phone for emergencies.
Transport
You will be transported to and from the guided walks from your accomodation at Kaihu Farm.
We can arrange to pick you up from an airport or hotel at an extra cost. Please ask if you need transport.
We are 3.5 hours North of Auckland airport, and 1.5 hours West of Whangarei airport.
All prices are shown in New Zealand dollars, are per person and include GST.
Most guided walks includes 2 nights accomodation, all meals, transport to and from the walk, a local guide and a souvenir package. Please check the individual walk detail for the specific inclusions.
