Guided Multi Day Walk

Length: 52 Kms.
This guided walk is one of the Northern Classic Walks™.
The walk starts at the mouth of the Hokianga Harbour and follows the coast south to Kai Iwi Lakes.
This is a three (3) day walk along rugged coastline and isolated beach. We will be camping for two nights on or close to the "Endless Beach", and crossing two small rivers and numerous streams. Due to the nature of travelling a tidal beach we will be dependent upon the tides for crossing the rivers safely. This means crossing the rivers at low tides and possibly at night.
On the way down the coast we will climb the 460m high Maunganui Bluff and end up at the Kai Iwi Lakes for a swim before being picked up. A well earned cold drink and a hot shower (not necessarily in that order) will set you up for some deserved boasting over a home cooked meal.
This walk is the top part of the 120Km Hokianga to Poutu walk, which takes a full 7 days and takes you along the longest beach in New Zealand. You will be able to observe the varied wildlife, ship wrecks, step carefully around the quicksands, collect shellfish and perhaps catch fish for your supper. This walk is truly a unique experience.
What to bring.
Plenty of film or batteries for the camera. Good walking or tramping shoes. Warm clothes and rain protection. A sense of humour is also appreciated.
Fitness level.
The walk will take 3 full days (6 - 10 hours) per day dependent upon the weather. Approximately halfway there are huts where we can overnight if necessary.
You will be supplied with a lightweight pack and overnight safety equipment (Including rations) just in case we get caught out. Approx weight is 3 Kgs with plenty of room for food and your own stuff. Camping equipment and food will be taken to meet you each night, so that you do not need to carry a large pack.
In addition your guide will carry GPS, ELB and a mobile phone for emergencies.
You will be transported to and from the Hokianga Beach Track walk from your accomodation at Kaihu Farm.
Cost: NZ$1295.00 per person, based on share twin or double.
Single occupancy: $150 per person additional.
This includes 4 nights accomodation at Kaihu Farm, all meals, transport to and from the walk sections, a local guide and a souvenir package.
Walking part of the longest beach in New Zealand (120Kms) is an adventure. There are lots of birds and sometimes fur seals along this beach. The elusive (and protected) Toheroa is found on the beach.

These 4 day walks and overnight camps are scheduled on the 1st weekend on a monthly basis, although a special arrangement can be made for groups of 6 or more.
